Episode 21: Having Faith in My Faith
Faith was born at 22-23 weeks gestational age and spent 140 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Overcoming severe respiratory illness and vision issues, she is now six years old and recently graduated from Kindergarten.
During our conversation, Lizzie and I talk about:
How difficult making decisions at 22-23 weeks gestation can be. Somewhere between 22-23 weeks is currently thought of as the edge of viability, and many providers have strong opinions about what parents should be doing.
The benefit of primary nursing for micro-preemies.
The benefit of journaling and documenting your NICU journey.
Communication between parents and neonatologists must occur for everyone to feel like they are part of the team.
The NICU is the start of the journey, but going home from the NICU is where the real work of parenting a preemie begins.
